Radha Soami Dera Baba Jaimal Singh was able to attract a number of disciples. Near about two million people follow the teachings of Radha Soami ji. The disciples of Radha Soami are not only restricted within the boundary of the country but spread outside India. The spiritual movement initiated by him is known as the Radhasoami Satsang throughout the world. The bold step was taken by Radha Soami ji during the colonial period in India.
Radha Soami Dera Baba Jaimal Singh was known as Soamiji Maharaj was a mystic. His philosophies somewhat resembled the Vaishnav philosophy. He imagined the soul of human to be Radha. The ultimate aim of Radha or the human soul was to reunite with the soami. Hence this saint was known as Radha Soami. His ideologies that resembled Vaishnav religious sect preached vegetarianism and to refrain from consuming alcohol.
Radha Soami did not undertake any systematic procedure to spread his newly found satsang. He did not try to impose his philosophy among his disciples and neither did he prefer to spread his thoughts far and wide. The only thing he stressed upon was that, to follow him one has to abstain himself from alcohol and did not consume non-vegetarian food.
During the 1850s Radha Soami Dera Baba Jaimal Singh had only a few disciples. But the number steadily increased to spread across the world. But he did not select any successor after him. So on his death in 1878, there was a confusion regarding his able successor. But soon there was a split and the movement continued under six of his followers. This split led to the spread of his teachings to a wide mass. His ashram is visited by many of his followers and has become a religious point in Punjab.
