Sis Ganj Sahib

As a tribute to the martyred Guru Teg Bahadur Singh Ji, the Sis Ganj Sahib Gurudwara was built at Anandpur Sahib town. As a consequence of the brutal execution of the ninth Guru of Sikhs, Bhai Jata who was a devout follower, brought the head of Guruji to Anandpur Sahib where it was cremated as a pious rite of the Sikhs.

Established by Teg Bahadur Singh Ji, the place of Anandpur Sahib boasts of many historical happenings. Gobind Rai, son of the revered Guru is believed to have stayed in this place only. After the demise of his father Gobind Rai took over the reign of Sikhism as the tenth Guru and started delivering holy sermons from the spot where the Gurudwara of Sis Ganj Sahib now stands.

As a mark of protest, Guru Teg Bahadur Singh Ji went against the orders of Aurangzeb who wanted the Guru to become a disciple of Islam. In order to give an exemplary punishment and to warn the other Sikh followers, the Mughal Emperor ordered his men to behead the Guru. In 1675, Teg Bahadur Singh Ji was heinously murdered at Chandni Chowk of old Delhi. Despite the diligent efforts of the Emperor, the head of the Guru was successfully cremated in the sacred land of Anandpur Sahib.

The prime structure which encompasses the Gurudwara of Sis Ganj Sahib is believed to have been erected with the personal direction of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Displaying a sacred charm of its own, Sis Ganj Sahib has become a must-visit place of pilgrimage for every sincere follower of Sikhism.

Besides the Indian visitors, people from outside the nation, who belong to other religious sects, also come to experience the bliss of the Sis Ganj Sahib.
