BSNL Ranchi has created a separate telecommunication circle for the state of Jharkhand, which is taking care of the requirements of this sector. There are total of 337 telephone exchanges in Jharkhand which have total switching capacity of 3.52 lakh. There are also 2.75 lakh working telephone connections of BSNL Ranchi. All the district headquarters are connected via BSNL Ranchi services to the main network and STD facility is also provided.
The switching capacity of major towns of the state such as Ranchi has been upgraded. The BSNL Ranchi internet node is upgraded to “A” category. All the district headquarters can avail Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) media connectivity. At present 6 internet nodes are operational in Jharkhand Telecom Circle. Local dialing facility to access internet is available for all district headquarters including the BSNL in Ranchi.
The BSNL Ranchi has launched ‘Tarang’- WLL Mobile Service in Ranchi. This facility will enable people to use the mobile phone at the normal call rates of the telephone within the city limits. The facility is in operation since the 3rd of March, 2003 with all the BSNL of Ranchi connection. There are also three special booking counters which had been set up at the Telephone Bhawan, Bariyatu and Hinoo Telephone Exchanges in the capital city of Jharkhand. BSNL at Ranchi is providing this service specifically for the professionals and the entrepreneurs who have to travel extensively within the city of Ranchi. The call charges however remain same as the normal PSTN phone charges.
