Sasan Power Limited was initially controlled by the Power Finance Corporation Limited. Sasan Power Limited became an integral part of Reliance Power on August 7, 2007.

Sasan The Shell Company

Sasan Power Limited is a Shell company which performs the basic functions of contacting the buyers of power and looking into payments regarding usage of power utility. Some of the other responsibilities of the Sasan Power limited as a Shell company are mentioned below:

  • Allotment of coal blocks in collective form
  • Making a comprehensive project report
  • Study of load flow, power evacuation system, system stability with new capacity addition or grid tolerance
  • Supply of water by the State government
  • Appointing consultants for the purpose of evaluation and making of documents of International Competitive

  • Acquisition of land
  • Sale of power of off take as per Electricity Act 2003
  • Conducting a study on Environment impact and thereby getting a clearance certificate from MOE & F

    Power Project of Sasan Power Limited

    The 3960 MW project of Sasan Power Limited has been started in a nearby area of Sasan village which is under the Singrauli Tehsil of Sidhi district in Madhya Pradesh. Initially the project was under the control of Power Finance Corporation Limited. However, through a bidding procedure done on international levels, the project was bagged by the Reliance Power in the year 2007.

    The site of the project covers around 3500 hectares of land. The Rihand Reservoir located at a distance of about 7 km from the Power Project is a major source of water supply. The Singrauli Coal fields have several integrated blocks that help in transportation of coal to the project site. Ruhella, Mohar, Bundela, Nigahi and Mehrauli blocks, all of which are about 25 km from Sasan Power Limited project, are supposed to supply the needed coal for the power generation.

    Power Accessibility

    The exact location of Sasan Power Limited is near the Sasan village. The site of the power project is at a distance 250 km from Varanasi Airport. The nearest railhead to the project is at Shakti Nagar which is 18 km away.

    Incurring a total cost of Rs. 18, 342 crore, the project of Sasan Power Limited is expected to be completed by December 2013. This project of the Reliance Power is surely going to create a positive impact on the power and energy scenario of the nation.
