Kullu


This page gives an insight of Kullu considered as the 'Silver Valley' by the tourists. The most enchanting and picturesque Kulu valley spreads out 5,503 sq.kms.
on both side of Beas river, with a population of about 381,571 as per Census 2001. Located at an altitude of about 1230 m above the sea level, Kullu is visited by tourists mainly for adventurous activities like mountaineering, trekking and river-rafting etc. Kullu is the epi-center of pilgrimage. Some of the famous pilgrimage spots in Kully valley are Bijli Mahadev, Manikaran, Vashistha, Hadimba and so on.

Lord Raghunathji, is the commanding God of the Kullu valley and during Dussehra, the festival of light, Kullu valley is lit up in all colors celebrated with pomp and show. Kullu valley is well known for delicately woven shawls and caps. Tourists pour in the valley in the months of March to November to visit the places of sight seeing and enjoy adventurous activities like trekking, mountain climbing and river rafting

The airport at Bhuntar is only 10kms. from Kulu valley that is linked with Delhi and Shimla by regular flights of Indian Airlines, Jagson flights and Trans Bharat Aviation. The Kulu Valley had broad road that connect the valley with major cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Shimla, Ambala, Dharamsala, Dehradun, Dalhousie and Pathankot. Buses categorized deluxe, semi-deluxe as well as air conditioned buses operate in the valley during tourist season to facilitate the tourists to reach the beautiful hill station. Taxis are readily available.
