Lahaul and Spiti


Lahaul and Spiti are the two major valleys of Himachal Pradesh. The valleys displays at its backdrop the magical view of the snow blanketed mountain ranges.

Lahaul depicts the rich heritage of the Buddhist empire with monasteries beautifully carved out of wood. Summers are mild while the winters are cold. Lahaul and Spiti are ideal for trekking. Tourism has developed enormously over the years. The valleys of Lahaul and Spiti are surrounded by hilly wealth of alpines and deodars.

Sightseeing in Lahaul:
  • Gondla- The fort of Gondla is found here.
  • Tandi- This place is believed to be the witness of the marriage of eloped couple of Chandra and Bhaga.
  • Keylong- This is the district headquarter of Lahaul and Spiti with mountains and streams.
  • Monasteries- Guru Ghantal, Kardang, Tayul and Shashur are some of the well known monasteries of worth visit.
  • Sissu- A beautiful waterfall cascades through the valley.
  • Baralacha La- This is the point wherefrom the Chandra, Bhaga and, Yunam rivers begins their journey.

  • Monasteries- The Kye, Thang Yug, Kungri, Dhankar and Tabo monastery are very famous in this location.

  • Kunzum Pass- From here , have an astonishing view of the second largest Bara-Sigri glacier.

  • Losar- The village has got the Losar and Peeno streams.

  • Kibber or Khyipur- Scenic beauty of the place draws tourists.

  • Pin Valley- The famous Chaumurti horses are found here. Arrow shooting and horse riding are practiced here. Pin valley National Park is situated here which is the natural habitat of Snow leopard, Himalayan Ibex, Blue Sheep and Lynx.

The staple food of the people of Lahaul and Spiti is the buckwheat. Spiti is known as the 'Little Tibet'.
