Sikkim Development Foundation



Sikkim Development Foundation was set up in the year 1999 as a non profit seeking, non government, non political, and non sectarian organization. The organization has its headquarters at Gangtok. It is registered with the Department of Land Revenue of the Sikkim Government, Serial number 1057, Volume Number I on 4th of February 1999.

The Development Foundation of Sikkim aims to bring a much better change to the lives of the Sikkim people. The organization wants to improve the living style of the citizens of Sikkim, especially that of the children, women, handicapped, minorities and other under privileged members of the Sikkim society.

The Development Foundation in Sikkim is the initiative of the people of Sikkim for the people of Sikkim. The foundation was started by few citizens of this north eastern state who were concerned about various things in the state such as health, environment, unemployment, education, poverty, and other social and economic problems.

Objectives of Development Foundation at Sikkim

Some of the very significant objectives of Development Foundation of Sikkim are as follows :
  • To create a peaceful climate, provide justice, equality, understanding, opportunity in the state.
  • To be an active agent of change for an efficient administration in the state.
  • To encourage such community development projects that promote sustainable economic conditions and environment in the field of health, education, rural development, micro-enterprise, etc.
  • To prevent and conserve the rich bio-diversity of the state and encourage ecotourism.
One of the successful projects of Sikkim Development Foundation is Kewzing Village Home Stay. This project was taken up by a local NGO of the area named Kewzing Tourism Development Committee who converted and developed a responsible tourism in the area which does not harm the bio-diveristy or the common man of the land and has set examples for other projects taken up by the Sikkim Development Foundation.
