Ecotourism and Conservation Society of Sikkim

Ecotourism and Conservation Society of Sikkim was set up in the year 2001 and is a registered body which has got the recognition of the Sikkim Government. The organization is also known as ECOSS in short. ECOSS aims at encouraging ecotourism and conservation in Sikkim which would be beneficial to the whole Sikkimese society.

The Sikkim Ecotourism and Conservation Society believes that the planning for sustainability of the ecotourism in Sikkim should include the common man of this north eastern land because without their support the dream of sustaining ecotourism in Sikkim would never be fulfilled.

The Society of Ecotourism and Conservation at Sikkim works through using the combination of the experience and intelligence of the national and international groups who are leading the whole world in the field of ecotourism and the force of the local rural people of Sikkim. ECOSS believes that ecotourism and conservation are not mutually exclusive and hence it lays stress on educating public about it and providing them the right training.

The Society of Ecotourism and Conservation in Sikkim work with the rural people, various government and non government agencies to achieve their target of spreading the education about ecotourism and preservation of the natural resources of Sikkim. This not only helps the government in maintaining the vast natural resource of the state but also the local tribes of the state who get employed and self dependent to manage their own lands.

The main activities of Ecotourism and Conservation Society of Sikkim are listed below :
  • Design, develop and initiate training on ecotourism for its service providers.
  • To promote environment conservation among students by working with them and their teachers.
  • To tie up with national, international, and regional agencies so as to spread the roots of ecotourism.
