Sikkim Executive



Sikkim executive is a central link in the governance status of the state. Working subject to the legislative council, the executive of Sikkim, is totally devoted towards the upbringing of the state. The state executive at Sikkim includes a council of ministers who are vested with the responsibilities to look after the functions of the various departments of state. It also includes the bureaucrats, who form an integral part of the Sikkim executive structure.

Chief Minister and Council of Ministers

The chief minister is at the helm of all the workings of the executive in Sikkim. Sri Pawan Chamling is the present chief minister of Sikkim. He guides the workings of the council of ministers, who are usually handpicked by him from the members of the ruling party in the state assembly. The ministers, the very backbone of the executive of Sikkim, are chosen on the basis of their proven efficiency and experience. Present council of ministers in Sikkim has 12 cabinet ministers, looking after about 50 state departments.

Bureaucrats in Sikkim

An account of the Sikkim executive will be incomplete without a mention of the directors and the secretaries who look after the various departments of the state. The chief secretary is the official head of the bureaucratic community of Sikkim. The bureaucrats of Sikkim are responsible for a proper governance of the state through an efficient implementation of the decisions taken by the ministry. This branch of Sikkim executive works through two levels, the secretariat and the directorate. They work at tandem with the council of ministers and guide the operations of Sikkim executive.
