Human Development Foundation of Sikkim

Human Development Foundation of Sikkim started its operation in 1995 as Children of Sikkim Foundation started by some Swiss and German tourists who were touched by the conditions of the local communities and especially the children of the state. In short, it is widely popular as HDFS.

HDFS was legally born in December 1997 when it was registered with the Sikkim government as a secular, non-profit making and non- governmental charity trust. The foundation receives foreign funds as donations also.

Human Development Foundation in Sikkim is mainly a children's organization. The main objective of this non profit seeking organization is to offer quality education to the underprivileged children of the Sikkim society. To achieve this goal, HDFS has set up a village for children where children from the age of 7 to 17 years are kept and offered an overall development program. The village accommodates not only those children who have lost their parents but also the ones whose parents cannot provide quality life to their children.

Apart from the village, the Sikkim Human Development Foundation also runs a vocational skill center where it trains the children in various fields of art which they want to learn. This program aims at building up the overall personality of the student so that after growing up he can take up his own responsibility as well as the responsibility of his family members.

All the donations received by the Human Development Foundation at Sikkim are used in various projects related to children. Since HDFS is registered as a charitable institute, all the donations made to this organization are exempted from tax as per the rules of different countries.

Human Development Foundation of Sikkim funds the Children village for running the daily expenses at the hostel, school and vocational skills center. Apart from this, the organization runs various campaigns to educate people about helping these underprivileged members of the society.
