Political Profile of the Speaker of Sikkim
Sri Dawa Norbu Takarpa, the present speaker at Sikkim legislative assembly, has a long and illustrious political career behind him. His political affiliation lies with the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). Sri Takarpa rose into political prominence when he got appointed as the president of the panchayat in 1983. Thereafter he served various offices of significance including the president of the Peling Tourism Department and the advisor to the state's tourism department.The highlights of his administrative career came with him being appointed as the member of the planning commission of the government of Sikkim and also the member of the ecclesiastical committee in the government of Sikkim. The political career of Sri Takarpa, the present Sikkim speaker of the legislative assembly, was ascertained when he got elected into the state assembly in the 2004 elections, when his party, the SDF formed the state government following a resounding success in the state elections. On the 24th May of the same year, Sri Takarpa got elected as the speaker of Sikkim legislative assembly.
