Drukpa Teshi

Drukpa Teshi in Sikkim is a festival that celebrates the day, when Lord Buddha turned the Wheel of Dharma for the first time. In Sikkim, Drukpa Teshi is also celebrated by the Buddhists to mark the day when Lord Buddha taught the four Noble truths to his disciples.

In Sikkim, Drukpa Teshi is celebrated on the day when Lord Buddha is said to have delivered the four Noble Truths to his disciples. On this day, Lord Buddha delivered the four Noble Truths of Buddhism to his first five disciples at a deer park at Sarnath. The four Noble Truths teaches men about the suffering that life begets and the redemption of these sufferings in Nirvana.

Drukpa Teshi at Sikkim is celebrated on the 6th month of the Tibetan Calendar. Drukpa Teshi in Sikkim is celebrated on the 4th day, which is known as 'Teshi' in Sikkim, of the 6th month: the festival, generally, takes place during the month of August.

Drukpa Teshi of Sikkim is marked with prayers, which is generally held at the deer park. The festival is held in Sikkim at an isolated area called Muguthang, in the extreme end of the North Sikkim. The festival in Sikkim is also marked by Yak race. The Sikkimese commemorate this festival by observing Yak race within the territory.
