Magar is the name dowered to another major tribe in the state of Sikkim situated in the north-eastern fringe of India. The members of the Magar tribe are fervent perusers of the Hindu religion and sincerely perform and follow all its tough customs and rituals. The people belonging to the Magar tribe in Sikkim are indeed very polite and hospitable people and they always have the urge to help others in the time of need.
There is a dialect in Sikkim which is purely confined to the individuals of the tribe only. This unique lingo is bestowed with the designation of Magar-Kura and is conjectured to have been derived from the Tibeto-Burmese group of people.
The Magar of Sikkim can be bifurcated into as many as seven categories which are mentioned below:-
- Burakhoti
- Roka
- Ale
- Pun
- Thapa
- Rana
- Gharti
The Magar across Sikkim also encourage inter cast marriages as they do not believe in any sort of cast barriers. They only believe in the fact that there should be an abstract connection between the hearts of the bride and the bridegroom. This is the sole criteria that is considered for their bridal ceremonies.
