Sikkimese Folk Dance
Sikkimese folk dance is widely popular all across the north eastern region. Most of the folk dance at Sikkim is inspired by the dance of its neighboring regions such as Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, etc. The local tribe of the Sikkim like to dance and sing a lot. Hence, they perform dances on every occasion. Most of the folk dance of Sikkim describes the beauty and significance of the north eastern state. Rechungma : This folk dance of Sikkim is performed during any pleasant event including marriage, childbirth and other social gatherings to pray to the god and thank them for their blessings.
Gha To Kito : This folk dance in Sikkim depicts about the natural wealth of Sikkim including the snow covered Himalayan ranges, Mount Kangchendzonga, rhododendrons and primulas, caves, minerals and holy places.
Talachi : This folk dance of Sikkim owes its birth to a small story. It is believed that once a king lost his favorite horse and to search for the beast, he sent a small army of his soldiers who sang and danced all the way to get rid of the loneliness and tiredness of the long journey.
Tashi Zaldha : This folk dance of Sikkim enacts the scarve offering ritual of the Bhutias. The dance is executed by young boys and girls.
Be Yu Mista : This folk dance is performed by both men and women as they appreciate the state and its natural treasures. The dance is accompanied by prayers, songs and hymns and music from various instruments.
