Agriculture continues to be one of the main occupation of the people of Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu is blessed with a fertile land that has helped in the agricultural growth of the state and the establishment of many agriculture related industries. Tamil nadu has many perennial rivers that makes the region suitable to grow multiple crops. The state is one of the leading producer of cash crops of India that helps the state to earn lots of revenue.

About sixty three lac hectares of the land is used for the agricultural purposes of the state. The Government of the state of Tamil Nadu has taken several steps to improve the agricultural productivity of the state. The farmers of Tamil Nadu use technology aided devices to boast the gross cultivation of the area.

Tamil Nadu is produces many important crops like Sugarcane, rice, ground nuts, oilseeds and variety of spices. The farmers of the state grow many crops at the same time. The state Government organizes various workshops for the farmers to enlighten them on various modern techniques of producing crops. The cultivators are encouraged to implement the various new methods of producing crops.

The Agriculture Department of the state of Tamil Nadu has taken many measures to improve the quality and quantity of production of agricultural crops. Some of the measure includes organic farming, Green Manuring by the use of bio-fertilizer for soil improvement, Integrated farming system and water management.

With its vast stretch of fertile land and use of modern techniques to enhance the agricultural productivity, Tamil Nadu is one of the leading agricultural state of India.
