At present, the Tamil Nadu Governor is Konijeti Rosaiah. Konijeti Rosaiah also served in various positions including the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Prior to becoming the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri Rosaiah was an MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly), MLC (Member of Legislative Council), and MP (Member of Parliament), representing the Indian National Congress.

Early Life of Konijeti Rosaiah



Shri Rosaiah hails from a middle income farmer's family based in Vemuru in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. He attained his bachelor's degree in Commerce from Guntur Hindu College under Andhra University. During his college days, he was nominated as a student leader and this marked his entry into the domain of politics. In 1952, he graced the position of the General Secretary of the Students Union of Guntur Hindu College.

Political Career of Konijeti Rosaiah



During the early phase of Konijeti Rosaiah's political career, Shri Rosaiah was a follower of the famous freedom fighter N.G. Ranga. For four terms (1968, 1974, 1980, and 2009), he was nominated as a Member of the Legislative Council. He won elections as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Chirala Constituency in 1989 and 2004. He made his entry to the Parliament of India when he emerged victorious in the General Elections held in 1998 from Narasaraopet Lok Sabha constituency.

K. Rosaiah has held various ministerial positions throughout his extensive political life, covering more than five decades. Rosaiah is one of the veteran politicians in Andhra Pradesh. He garnered significant fame when he served as the Finance Minister of the state.

Over his extensive political life, Rosaiah had worked together directly with majority of the Indian Prime Ministers, which includes Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Performance as Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu



K. Rosaiah tabled the budget in Andhra Pradesh on 16 occasions, including seven times successively, which is an unparalleled feat in India. He held the portfolio of the finance ministry under Chief Ministers like Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy, Marri Chenna Reddy, Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy, and Nedurumalli Janardhana Reddy. During his term as Finance Minister under M. Chenna Reddy, Shri Rosaiah made sure that teachers get retirement benefits.

He is famous for sticking to stringent financial management strategies and for efficient channeling and usage of public money. He is the longest serving Finance Minister of Andhra Pradesh and his role as finance minister is well acclaimed.

As Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh
K. Rosaiah took oath as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh following the unfortunate death of Y. S. Rajashekhara Reddy. During Reddy's term as Chief Minister, Shri Rosaiah took a number of initiatives to make the state of Andhra Pradesh politically steady. He kept on working on all the public welfare plans contrived and started by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, his forerunner.

Rosaiah is frequently given recognition for the successful handling of the flood circumstances in the month of October 2009, efficient fiscal supervision, the law and order condition of the state concerning the Telangana protests which began in late 2010, and restructuring of the supply schemes of welfare plans and so on.

Shri Rosaiah quit his post of Chief Minister on November 24, 2010 and sent his resignation letter to E.S.L Narasimhan, the then Governor because of health related issues. Subsequently, Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy took over as the 16th Chief Minister of the state.

As Governor of Tamil Nadu
Konijeti Rosaiah was designated as the Governor of Tamil Nadu on August 26, 2011. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, the President of India, appointed him as the new governor of the state after Surjit Singh Barnala demitted office as Governor of Tamil Nadu.
