Justice Thiru Ajit Prakash Shah is an expert in civil, constitutional, service and labor matters. On December 18, 1992 he was appointed as an Additional Judge of Bombay High Court. Later, on the 8th of April 1994 he became a permanent judge in the same court. Some of his very important judgments on recent and significant issues are regarding the Freedom of Speech and Expression, Protection of disabled Persons, Laws relating to Women and Environmental and Ecological matters. He also issued many directions regarding the changes that are to be brought in the prisons, specially with respect to the condition of women and children there. Justice Thiru Ajit Prakash Shah also participated actively in organizing programs in order to sensitize the approach of the judges and other judicial officers regarding gender issues.
Tamil Nadu Judiciary is the system of courts that administer justice on behalf of the State. It helps the state in matters such as resolving disputes. Tamil Nadu Judiciary is also responsible for implementing certain laws. Thus it is very important for the proper working of the state government. The collective effort of the judges and magistrates keep the other two bodies of the Tamil Nadu government functioning properly.
