Tamil Nadu Police, the police force of Tamil Nadu is headed by the Director General of Police. This extremely efficient wing of the state Home Department of Government of Tamil Nadu. This the fifth largest state police force in India and is 140 years old. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who holds the portfolio of Home Minister has the power of administrative control over Tamil Nadu Police.
The Tamil Nadu Police also has many special units for providing some support services. Specific functions related to security, criminal investigation and intelligence are performed by these units of the Tamil Nadu Police. These units are-
