One of the most populated states of India, Andhra Pradesh is characterized by a harmonious existence of different Religions that have evolved in the place over the centuries. Originated from the Dravidian sect, the people of the state follow their respective customs and rituals religiously.

Known to be the land of great Ashoka, Andhra Pradesh was dominated by the Mughal Dynasties too in the past. The culture, the languages, the festivals, all shows the dynamic tradition of the place which was enriched and developed by various ancient rulers of the bygone era.

Notwithstanding the diverse range of sects that include tribes and sub-tribes, the Religion of Andhra Pradesh is a vibrant palate of different communities and groups that have their inherent religious activities.

An interesting proof of the magnanimity of the religious sects of Andhra Pradesh can be found in the numerous architectural edifices and touristy places that were built by past emperors and rulers belonging to various religions. Be it the Charminar, Chote Hazrat Ki Dargah and Mecca Masjid or be it the Vijeyeswara Swami Temple, Tiruchanur Padmavati Temple and Ramappa Temple, all these only strengthen the secular base of the state.

The special festivals and activities that symbolize the vibrant face of the Religion of Andhra Pradesh include visaka utsav, ugadi, deccan Festival, rayalaseema, pongal, vinayaka chaviti, lumbini Festival and makara sankranthi. Celebrated with fervor and zeal, the festivals are further enriched by the enthusiastic participation of the people of various Religion and caste other than the local inhabitants of the state.

From Buddhists maths to mosques to temples, the Religion in Andhra Pradesh is a live manifestation of the co-habitation of wide array of sects that have a pertinent impact on the socio-cultural development of the state.
