Srivilliputhur Grizzled Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary

The reserve is conveniently sited 15 km away from Srivilliputhur Railway station and 100 km away from Madurai airport. The forest officials also take care of all tourists' requirements and provide them with comfortable and affordable accommodation either at the Forest Rest House at Mudungiar, Pudupatti, Mudaliaroothu or at the PWD Rest House at Srivilliputhur and also provides transportation.

Srivilliputhur Grizzled Squirrel Wildlife Sanctuary is one of a kind and is flooded with myriad of tourists all throughout the year who gather to watch the furry bodied, cute rodents scurrying about busily stocking their larder with nuts and fruits. It is indeed a captivating sight to watch the cute and industrious bushy squirrels in action.

The sanctuary's vegetation comprises of a mixture of dry deciduous forests, moist mixed deciduous forests and grasslands. It is mainly inhabited by Grizzled Giant Squirrels. Flying Squirrel, Tree Shrew, Elephant, Lion-tailed Macaque, Nilgiri Tahr, Mouse Deer, Barking Deer and many a species of birds also seek refuge in the green enclosure of the Srivilliputhur sanctuary.
