The latest one was in the 17th century, the Vijayanagara Empire which immensely contributed in the construction of the extended shrines of Tirupati.

Krishna Deva Raya, the greatest ruler of the Vijayanagara Empire, was responsible for the development of Tirupati. He donated gold and other ornaments to the temple. In the ancient Tamil works this place was known as Thiruvegadam. It was known as Venkatachala for centuries which is; "ven" means 'sin' and "kata" means 'destroyed or burnt', thus it means that who-so-ever worships there will eventually get cleaned of all his sins. It is believed that a 'Thondaiman' ruler of the Tondai Nadu built this temple after visualizing Lord Vishnu in a dream.
