Department of Rural Development, Tripura

The Department of Rural Development, Tripura is one of the significant sectors that buttresses the infrastructure of the northeast Indian state. A substantial portion of the state is inhabited by a rural populace. Consequently, rural development is one of the major areas of concern of the government.

Amongst the various Tripura Government has launched the Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana(SGRY) Information System that has been a pioneer in the development of the rural sector of the state. Statistics for the year 2003-04' reveal that under the current development scheme, 9,616 housing estates have been constructed in the state and incurred a net expenditure of Rs. 2199.771 lakhs. A further 27,277 houses have constructed during this period under the Indira Awas Yojana. The Pradhan Manti Gramodyaya Yojana Gramin Niwas (PMGY-GA) is responsible for the construction of numerous housing projects as well as setting up tube wells, reservoirs, iron removing plants, latrines in the rural homes as well as the construction of a set of arterial roads. Several village communities have come up in the bucolic hamlets of Tripura while large scale sectoral reforms are also in progress.

In addition to these, several hand pumps, wells and over 160 primary schools have been established in the state. Tripura goverment's Department of Rural Development has recognized the importance of sprucing up the socio-economic village infrastructure, widespread proliferation of education, complete eradication of illiteracy and unemployment and that can be ascribed to the roaring success of the Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana(SGRY) Information System.
