Tripura National Volunteers was formed as a political party by Shri Bijoy Harankhwal in the month of December of 1978. The primary aim of the Tripura National Volunteers was to separate Tripura from the Indian Union. Comprised of several veteran leaders, the Tripura National Volunteers is one of the prominent Tripura political parties.
The members of the Tripura National Volunteers wanted complete expulsion of Bengali immigrants from the state. The Tripura National Volunteers wanted a separate state for the local indigenous inhabitants of the state so that there is adequate social, economic and political security in the region.
The state government of Tripura had tried out several methods to curb the regional sentiments of the native population of the state. However, the members of the Tripura National Volunteers continued with their agitation to free the state from the inhabitants of other states of India.
The state government of Tripura was compelled to ban the activities of the political group of the Tripura National Volunteers. The well known leader of the political party, Shri Bijoy Harankhwal was arrested by the police to bring the volatile situation of the state under control of the state machinery. However, after the release of the political leader, Shri Bijoy Harankhwal had disbanded the political party of Tripura National Volunteers.
The agitation of the local indigenous inhabitants did not stop with the suspension of the Tripura National Volunteers. The Tripura National Volunteers party was reformed in the year of 1982 under the able leadership of Shri Bijoy Harankhwal to revive their demand of removal of foreigners from their land.
