Haora River, Tripura

The Haora River, Tripura is one of the most significant rivers that are situated in the state. This river, along with some other major rivers of the place like Gomati, Khowati, Manu and Muhuri, constitute the main sources of water in this state.

The Haora River shares its name with a district in the state of West Bengal. This river of the state of Tripura flows through the Agartala city, which is one of the most important places in the state. River Haora is a significant water body in the subdivision called Sadar subdivision in Tripura state.

The Haora River of Tripura has another name, which is Saidra. Actually, this can be termed a local name of the river. The name "Saidra' is derived from the language called Kokborok and the name is mostly used by the people who originally belong to this state.

The Saidra River has its origin in a hilly region of the state, which is called the Boromura Hills. These hills are situated in the central part of the state.

After originating from the Boromura Hills, this river flows through the foothill region and its course includes a number of major cities of Tripura other than Tripura. The names of these cities are Champaknagar, Khumulwng, Jirania and Khayerpur.

Finally, the Haora River, Tripura unites with another river called Padma. The Padma River is one of the most important rivers of the neighboring country of India called Bangladesh.
