Khowai River, Tripura

The Khowati River, Tripura is one of the important rivers that flow through the state. This river is one of the most significant water bodies that drain the state of Tripura.

Along with rivers like Manu, Muhuri, Haorah and Gomati, River Khowati helps to drain the state. This region of the country of India has mainly two different kinds of rivers. A few rivers of Tripura flow in the north direction, while the rest flow in the west direction. The Khowati River is one of the rivers of the place that flow towards the north. The other rivers of Tripura that follow the same direction as the Khowati are Doloi, Juri, Manu and Langai.

The total length of the river is 70 kms. The Khowai River, Tripura has its origin in the eastern region of the Atharamura Hills. After originating from the Atharamura Hills, the river first flows in the north-west direction and then in the north direction before entering the neighboring state of Bangladesh.

The river enters this country through Balla, which is located in the district of Sylhet. The river then flows towards the east of the town called Habiganj. It finally empties itself into the Meghna River close to the mouth of the Kalni at a place called Nabiganj.

There is a town located close to this river. The name of this town is Khowai as well. Khowai is not only a town but a nagar panchayat as well.
