Energy
A notable energy project of Uttar Pradesh is solar photovoltaics application program in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The goal is to provide access to clean and reliable renewable energy. Winrock International India (WII) is implementing this program to improve access to clean energy and modern lighting. The main focus is to deliver energy to the remote villages in eastern Uttar Pradesh by solar photovoltaic applications (mainly solar lanterns). This project is being funded by an Europe-based Foundation.

Uttar Pradesh renewable energy bagasse/ biomass based 22 MW cogeneration project by Triveni Engineering & Industries Limited at Deoband sugar plant.
Uttar Pradesh renewable energy bagasse based cogeneration power project with export of surplus power at Dhampur, Uttar Pradesh by Dhampur Sugar Mills Limited.
Uttar Pradesh energy efficiency project by modification of carbon dioxide removal system of ammonia plant to reduce steam consumption at Jagdishpur, Uttar Pradesh by Indo Gulf Fertilizers Limited .
The power sector reform policy statement of January, 1999 aims at reforming the electrical energy sector of Uttar Pradesh by the following ways:
Restructuring and unbundling of Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board by transforming power generation, transmission and distribution functions into autonomous and separately accountable entities.
Commercialization and corporatisation of emerging entities.
Promoting participation of private sector in power generation.
