Taj Mahal
Constructed by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to commemorate his wife Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is unparalleled in magnificence. It was built in 1653. Standing along the Yamuna, white marble and semi-precious stones on the dome and minarets at four corners lend elegance to the Taj. Elaborate artwork along the walls and the lattice work allow visitors to witness floral motifs of the Mughal age. Calligraphy work quotes memorable verses from the Quran.
Sikandara
Akbar's mausoleum is renowned for its gateway Buland Darwaza, built following the victory gate at Fatehpur Sikri. The enclosed garden area spreads out in the char bagh style with the tomb occupying center stage. The four minarets with arresting inlay designs of white marble on red sandstone and calligraphic ornamentation charm visitors. The pyramidal tomb is crowned by an open terrace. The portico before the grave is studded with exquisite stucco paintings.
Hussainabad Imambara
Built in black and white calligraphic pattern, it contains the remains of Muhammed Ali Shah, its builder. Built between 1837 and 1842, it may be entered through a picturesque garden. It possesses a white dome, towers and minarets. The walls are adorned with Arabic verses. Chandeliers, gilded mirrors, stucco work, the King's throne and embellished replicas of the Karbala tombs decorate its interiors.
