Uttar Pradesh Politics

The sole credit of presenting the state of Uttar Pradesh with a whole new perspective regarding social as well as economic welfare goes to Uttar Pradesh politics. The Uttar Pradesh politics has encountered a major overwhelming upheaval in the last two decades under the reign of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav, the former honorable Chief Minister who hails from the 'Samajwadi Party'.

It was on 13th May, 2007, an eventful day in Uttar Pradesh politics, that Mayawati representing the 'Bahujan Samaj Party' sworn in as the honorable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh by virtue of her record-setting incredible victory in the 2007 elections. It was after a period of 14 years that the Bahujan Samaj Party repeated the herculean feat of a single-handedly thrashing the opponents by absolute majority in an election.

The Politics in Uttar Pradesh has not only revolutionized the various aspects of life in Uttar Pradesh but also procured eminent names to the politics of India as well. As a matter of fact, eight Prime Ministers out of the grand total of fourteen so far have descended from the territorial dominion of Uttar Pradesh. Arranged in chronological order the list reads as :-
  • Jawahar Lal Nehru.

  • Lal Bahadur Shrastri.

  • Indira Gandhi.

  • Rajiv Gandhi

  • Choudhury Charan Singh

  • Vishwanath Pratap Singh.

The Gandhi family has given many politicians, who have served this country with their heart and soul. It is the members of this illustrious family who constitute the throbbing center of Uttar Pradesh politics. Distinguished names include honorable President of Congress, Rae Bareli's own Shrimati Sonia Gandhi, her beloved son, Rahul Gandhi from Amethi, Maneka Gandhi, her heir, Varun Gandhi who is set to enter the political arena soon.
