Topography of Uttarakhand implies the terrain and the landforms present within its territory. Nestled amid the Himalayas, the topography of Uttarakhand offers a wide range of landforms form hills and peak to cliffs and ridges.

The topography of Uttarakhand boasts of many rich forests, glaciers, mountains peaks, and beautiful network of the mighty rivers. In fact, the hills and mountains present in the territory of Kumaoni-Garhwal is said to be the 'Abode of Gods and Goddesses'.

Among the important peaks that constitute the topography of Uttarakhand are:

    Besides, the topography of Uttarakhand is incomplete without its rivers. The location of Uttarakhand is such that it comprises of many rivers with their sources in the mountains of Uttarakhand. Some of the important rivers of Uttarakhand is this context are:

    • Bhagirathi,
    • Alakananda,
    • Kosi,
    • Mandakini,
    • Pindar,
    • Saryu, etc.
    Moreover, the topography of Uttarakhand is incomplete without a reference to the Tehri. An estimate of the Tehri region is as follows:

    • Tehri Garhwal – The Tehri Garhwal district covers the Himalayan peaks of Thalaiya Sagar, Jonli and the Gangotri region. River Bhagirathi that flows throughout the region, divides the region into two; while the rivers Bhilangna, Alaknanda, Ganga and the Yamuna borders it on the east.
    • Pauli Garhwal – This district also came to be known as British Garhwal, includes the territory of Chamoli and Rudraprayag.
    Thus, we find that the topography of Uttarakhand presents a distinctive pattern which is unique in itself.
