Current government of Uttarakhand

Current government of Uttarakhand is led by a BJP led coalition aided with supporting parties like the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal. Uttarakhand's current government operates under the leadership of the chief minister Sri BC Khanduri. A highly efficient group of ministers look after the various departments devoted to the betterment of the state and bring about a holistic improvement in the state's profile. The distribution of the portfolios exhibit a balance between the members of the ruling party and chief alliances in the formation of the state Assembly.

The BJP managed to defeat the INC with 34 seats in the elections held in February 2007. Falling short by one seat to gain the absolute majority in the state Assembly, the help of coalition was sought and was readily provided by the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) with three seats. The portfolios were distributed to the ministers soon after the formation of the current government in Uttarakhand. Chief minster Mr. BC Khanduri took the responsibility of as many as 35 departments. Some of these departments are of extreme importance as power, PWD, higher education and urban development. The health portfolio was disbursed to Sri Romesh Pokhriyal Nishank, whereas Matbar Singh Khandari assumed responsibilities as the minister of science and technology.

Other important portfolios in the current government of Uttarakhand were distributed to members from the ruling party as well as the main alliances of the party. Some of the major portfolios with the corresponding ministers are as follows:
  • Forest and Transport: BS Bhagat
  • Rural development and panchayati raj: Bisan Singh Chufal
  • Revenue: Diakar Bhatt
  • Agriculture and Animal Husbandry: Trivendra Singh Rawat
  • Education: Madan Kaushik
  • Labor, Youth Welfare and Sports: Rajendra Bhandari
The departments of women's empowerment and social justice will be taken care of by Smt. Beena Maharana and Ajay Tamta respectively.
