As the terrain of Uttarakhand is rugged at many places, railways does seem to be the best option for conveyance in Uttarakhand. In fact, no other mode of transport can meet up to the level of the airlines.

The airlines or the aviation industry has been under the scrutiny of the Uttarakhand government and the State Government of Uttarakhand has come up with many idea to enhance the market of the airlines in Uttarakhand. The vision of the Uttarakhand government in this respect are as follows:

To make air transport as reliable means of transport in all the weather conditions,
To establish scheduled air service from Uttarakhand to the capital cities of India, with an international gateway, etc.

Some of the initiatives taken by the State governments to enhance the plight of the airlines are as follows:

Coordination with the Airport Authority of India for upgradation of Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun.
Operating the airstrips at Gaucher (Chamoli), Chinyalisaur (Uttarkashi) and Pithoragarh.
Analysing the feasibility of Mountain Airline to boost high altitude tourism.
Promoting air sports, etc.

Moreover, talking about the airlines of Uttarakhand, we can say that Dehradun , the capital of Uttarakhand is well connected with Delhi and other important centers in northern India. Besides the Indian Airlines, many other private operators provide connectivity with the other parts of the world.
