Talking about the location of Uttarakhand, we can summarize the following points:
The present location of Uttarakhand is the resultant of the agreement of the Central government of India, the State government of Uttar Pradesh and the common people who had appealed for a separate entity.
Uttarakhand in the recent past shared its location with the state of Uttar Pradesh as it was a part of the territory of Uttar Pradesh. Later, on 9th November, 2000, Uttarakhand emerged as an independent state.
The present state of Uttarakhand had been a part of the United Province of Agra and Awadh, that came into existence in the year 1902. Again, in 1935 the name of the state was changed into United Province, which was once again changed to Uttar Pradesh in January, 1950.
The location of Uttarakhand is such that it enjoys foreign boundaries. Some of the foreign states that surround Uttarakhand are:
- China,
- Tibet, and
- Nepal.
- Himachal Pradesh,
- Uttar Pradesh,
- Delhi,
- the mountains of Garhwal and Kumaon, etc.
Thus, it can be said that the location of Uttarakhand largely determines its geographic importance.
