clubs in Visakhapatnam play an integral role in the socio-cultural lives of the people in the city. IBP Century Club, Rotary Club and Caltex Club are some of the important clubs of Vizag.
Among the important clubs in Visakhapatnam are:
Century Club – Century Club is located in Maharanipeta and is one of the premier clubs in the city. It presents a traditional club environment. The Century Club was established in 1934 as the Society Club. The founding stone of the club was laid by Lord Erskine on 20th December, 1934. The purpose of the club was to provide entertainment to the stalwarts of the city. Since its inception, the club has been a hub of sporting, literary and many other cultural activities for its members.
Rotary Club – The Rotary Club of Visakhapatnam was established on 8th March, 1942. The first president of the club was Dr C R Reddy. It started with 21 charter members. Rotary Club of Vishakhapatnam was initially sponsored by the Rotary Club of Madras. It has in turn sponsored the Rotary Clubs of Anakapalli, Vizianagaram, Waltair and Kakinada. The club has involved itself with a number of social works right from the time of its inception. The Rotary Club of Visakhapatnam has adopted the Maddilapalem Village. The club, in association with the Rotary Club of Seattle, is said to have established the Seattle Centre. PDG C Hanumantha Rao, PDG K S Dutt, PDG G S K. Arya, PDG K. Ramabrahmam, PDG Dr Goli Bhaskara Rao and D V Raju are the governors of the district, who had been the members of the club.
