West Bengal Fire

West Bengal fire service is the known to be the oldest of this kind in the country. The Fire Service Station in West Bengal was established in the year 1950. This service station came into being as a result of the conglomeration of Bengal Fire Service and Calcutta Fire Brigade. There are more than one hundred functional fire stations under this department.

The Fire Service Act that was enacted in the year 1950 and was later amended in 1996. During the time of amendment the rules on fire prevention and fire safety were included. About 8000 fire forces with more than 350 fire appliances are employed to serve the people of West Bengal. Some of the most sophisticated and modern appliances are there to ensure safety.

West Bengal fire service functions with efficiency under the guidance of the minister in charge, Sri Pratim Mukherjee. Sri P K Kathiresan, IAS is his secretary.
