Deputy Speaker

The Honorable Chair of the Deputy Speaker of West Bengal is adorned by a veteran politician, Shri Bhakti Pada Ghosh. Known as a strict disciplinarian, Shri Bhakti Pada Ghosh belongs to a tiny village of Sahapur in the district of Birbhum in West Bengal.

Born in a cultured Bengali family, the veteran politician has fulfilled all the roles and responsibilities of the Deputy Speaker and has earned a name for himself in the history of the state's politics. Shri Bhakti Pada Ghosh has been unanimously elected by the esteemed Members of the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal as the Deputy Speaker.

During the absence of the Speaker, Shri Hashim Abdul Halim, the Deputy Speaker performs all the duties to the best of his abilities. Shri Bhakti Pada Ghosh presides over the numerous meetings and conferences of the state Legislative Assemblies of West Bengal and maintains the decorum of the House. Being in one of the most important position of the West Bengal State Legislative Assembly, the Deputy Speaker casts his votes in case of an tie. The important decision of the state in that case depends on the sole discretion of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.
