Alurdom

Alurdom is a mouthwatering and spicy Bengali dish. This is prepared of fired potatoes and tastes heavenly when teemed with the dip fried Luchi. This Bengali Delicacy is one of the celebrated dishes that come out of a Bengali Kitchen. Luchi and Alurdom together constitute the most favored breakfast item on any festive day in Kolkata.

There are various ways to prepare the Alurdom. There are many versions of this Bengali Cuisine. There are certain recipes where stuffed potatoes are used to prepare Alurdom.

The list of ingredients required to prepare the most common version of Alurdom is provided below. Some of the necessary items are:

  • 6 medium size potatoes
  • Half tablespoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander powder
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 medium size onions
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • 1 tablespoon tomato puree
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • Half teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • Four tablespoon cooking oil

    How to Prepare Alurdom:

    Cut each potato into four pieces. Mix a little bit of turmeric powder and salt with the potato pieces and fry them well. Make a paste of half onion, ginger and garlic. Chop the rest of the onion very finely. Fry the chopped onion in ghee along with the bay leaves till they turn golden brown. Add the paste prepared into it and fry them together for a minute or two. Add the rest of the spices now expect the garam masala powder and fry in low flame. After some time add the fried potato pieces and put some water to it. Add salt, sugar and garam masala according to taste. Let it boil till the potatoes are cooked and the gravy turns thick. Add some ghee to it just before taking the pot away from heat.

    Alurdom also tastes good when served with hot parotas.
