West Bengal Airports

There are two airports in the state of West Bengal. The Bagdogra Airport is situated in the northern part of the state while the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is located in the capital city of Kolkata. The airports of West Bengal provide regular services to the travelers of the city to international and domestic destinations.

The Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is located in the city of Kolkata in the Dum Dum region at a distance of 16 kilometers from the heart of the city. The first aircraft landed in this airport in the year 1924. Since then, the airport has played an important role as the terminal for a majority of north eastern states of India. The airport updates itself with the best facilities improving on its deficiencies to meet the international standards. The Bagdogra Airport is located in Bagdogra at a distance of 14 kilometers from the city of Siliguri. The airport had been the base for the air force of India for a long time with limited access to the civilians. The presence of the air force has reduced considerably in the past few years which has shifted its base to Hasimara in the Dooars region of north Bengal. The airport only allows domestic flights. It is an important base for those who desire to access the north eastern states of India. Flights from Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata fly to this airport.
