The state of West Bengal is connected to the different cities of the country with a wide network of rail roads. The Indian railways ply scheduled trains to different parts of the state. The different parts of the state is also connected with the help of rail roads. The cities also have local trains that make accessibility between places easier.

The districts of the state have railway stations with trains that arrive from the other cities of the country to the state of West Bengal. There are scheduled trains that depart from the major stations to the important destinations in the country. Some of the trains bound for destinations in other states also route their way through the state of West Bengal. Three Rajhdhani trains also run from the the city of Kolkata to the capital city of New Delhi. The two railway stations that exist in metropolitan city of Kolkata in West Bengal are the Howrah Station and the Sealdah Station. The rail roads of West Bengal are an extensive network that traverse to all parts of the state and to other parts of the country. The government of India is presently planning to connect the neighboring country of Bangladesh to Kolkata through the rail roads.
