Aadesh Shrivastava Biography

Aadesh Shrivastava is a well-known composer in the Hindi film industry i.e. Bollywood. Till date, he has composed more than 2000 songs, which include many hit numbers. His biggest achievement so far has come in 1998 when he won the Filmfare Award for Best Background Score for the film Border.

Aadesh Shrivastava was born in Jabalpur and was fortunate enough to have a family which was fond of music. His father was a railway superintendent while his mother was a lecturer. He shared the love for music with his parents and four siblings.

Becoming a doctor was his dream as a child, but as he grew up his passion for music overshadowed everything else and he chose to become a music composer. He shifted to Mumbai in order to realize his dream of becoming a music composer. Initially, he played drums for Music Directors like Salil Chowdhuri, OP Nayyar and Shanker-Jaikishan. He also worked as an assistant to the famous duo Lakshmikant-Pyarelal for more than ten years. He believes that learning is a non-ending process and at present takes lessons on Classical Music from Santosh Pandit.

He started working as a composer in 1994 with the film Kanyadaan. He had even roped in Lata Mangeshkar but unfortunately the film was never released. Angaarey, released in 1998, was his first hit music, which earned him lots of praises.

In the same year Border was released which further cemented his place in the film industry. He also composed music for Kunwara, Tarkieb and Shikari (all released in 2000), which became very popular. However, his biggest hits came in the new millennium with films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Chalte Chalte (2003), Baghban (2003) and Deewar (2004).

He is deeply into Punjabi music and has brought in the flavor of Punjabi folk in many of his songs. He wishes to stand apart from the crowd by creating some melodious music.

He is using indian ragas in place of the trendy Rock and Hip Hop. This has made the music of Deewar very interesting. Shrivastava can also play a number of Western musical instruments. Currently, he is working on an international album.
