The eldest son of Bollywood producer Tahir Hussain and Zeenat Hussain, Aamir Hussain Khan is one of the finest actors in Indian Cinema. A recipient of Padma Shri (2003), India's fourth highest civilian award from the Government of India, Khan was born on 14th March 1965 in
Mumbai, India.
Aamir's first appearance in a Bollywood movie as a child artiste was Yaadon Ki Baraat (1973) followed by Madhosh (1974). As an adult he also featured in Ketan Mehta's Holi in 1984. After 4 years, Aamir debuted in the leading role in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (QSQT), a home production, written by uncle Nassir Hussain and directed by cousin Mansoor Khan. He co-acted with nephew Imran Khan and brother, Faisal Khan in Mela (2000).
After few flops at the box office in the early 90s, Aamir regained his popularity with Dil (1990), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander (1992), Rangeela (1995) and Raja Hindustani (1996). He wrote the screenplay of Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993) and play-backed for the famous "Aati Kya Khandala" track from Ghulam (1998).
Aamir's character in Deepa Mehta's offbeat movie Earth (1998) brought him rave reviews. His versatility was affirmed when his movie Sarfarosh (1999)became a superhit at the box office.
A big fan of Alfred Hitchcock, the Aamir-starrer "Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India" (2001) was nominated for the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. In the same year, Aamir played the role of an urban Indian youth with funky looks in Farhan Aktar's Dil Chahta Hai. The "perfectionist" Aamir, was back in the news in 2005, with the release of Mangal Pandey - The Rising.
Khan set alive the box office in 2006 with consecutive hits, Rang De Basanti and Fanaa.
