Abhijeet Sawant

Abhijeet Sawant is the first Indian Idol. Born on October 7, 1981 in a middle class Marathi family, Abhijeet studied in Mumbai's Raje Shivaji Vidyalay in Mahim before completing his graduation from Chetna College, Bandra, Mumbai.

Son of Mrs. Manisha Sawant and Mr. Shridhar Pandurang Sawant, Abhijeet was born and brought up in Mumbai. He took professional training under guru Mr. Bhavdeep Jaipurwale & Mr. Raju Singh. He was a regular singer at community functions and gatherings especially on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

From rags to riches, Abhijeet climbed the rungs of success after seven months of trials and tribulations to win the first Indian Idol title on March 5, 2005, among 130 selected participants and 11 finalists..

Beating the equally talented Amit Sana, Abhijeet won the contract worth Rs 10 million (1 crore) from Sony and a luxury car. Post his Indian Idol victory, Abhijeet released his first album Aapka Abhijeet Sawant on April 7, 2005. He also signed few contracts to promote many other shows and products related to Sony in the following months. Later in June, he released his second album for Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin (a Sony Entertainment Television show) and even acted in many other Sony-produced soaps, like CID.

Abhijeet Sawant has also started playback singing for Bollywood films. Sawant is currently working on assignments with music biggies like Anu Malik, Ismail Merchant and Himesh Reshammiya.
