Farhan Akhtar Biography

Farhan Akhtar is an Indian bollywood film Actor, director, producer and screenwriter. He was born on 9th January 1974 in Mumbai to screenwriters Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani. His parents got divorced during his early days and his father married Shabana Azmi in 1984. Speaking about the influence of his parents on his childhood, Farhan said that his parents never pressurized him.
He completed his schooling from Maneckji Cooper School. He studied in HR College, Mumbai and dropped out of college and began his career in films by working as an assistant director in the films Lamhe in 1991 and Himalay Putra in 1997. In 2000, Farhan Akhtar married Adhuna Bhabani after a three year long relationship and they have two children named Shakya and Akira.

Farhan Akhtar made his directorial debut with the film Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and received critical praise for portraying modern youth and the film also won a National award. Later in 2004 he made the film Lakshya and made his Hollywood debut through the soundtrack of the film Bride and Prejudice, for which he wrote the lyrics. In 2006 he received his first commercial success with the film Don and in 2007 he directed a documentary named Positive to spread HIV-AIDS awareness.

In 2008, Farhan made his debut acting career with the film Rock on, for which he won another National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi as producer. After this he acted in three more films which didn’t do that well. In 2011, he produced, acted and wrote the dialogues for the critical commercial success Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which went on to win two National awards. The same year, he directed Don 2 a sequel to Don, which remains his highest-grossing film till date.

Currently Farhan is working on his sports biopic film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag which portrays Milkha Singh, an athlete. Besides his film career Farhan has appeared as judge on Femina Miss India 2002, Nach Baliye in 2005 and hosted a television show on NDTV Imagine, called Oye! It’s Friday! in the same year. Besides this, Farhan has also endorsed several brands like Hindustan Unilever’s Pureit water purifier and Titan watchmaker Industries as a part of his career.
