Akkineni Nagarjuna Rao

Nagarjuna is a renowned actor and producer in Telugu Cinema Industry.

Nagarjuna, the nickname of Akkineni Nagarjuna Rao, is one of the most distinguished actors and producers in Telugu Cinema Industry. Son of veteran actor, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Annapurna Akkineni, this celluloid personality was born on August 29, 1959 in Chennai.

Nagarjuna finished his schooling from Hyderabad Public School and intermediate from Little Flower Junior College. He graduated with an Engineering degree from Anna University, Chennai followed by masters from Michigan University, USA.

Nagarjuna had a great passion for acting. Consequently, he made his first public appearance in ‘Vikram’ in 1986 and won the heart of the young audience. In ‘Geetanjali’ directed by Mani Ratnam, Nagarjuna’s role as a romantic hero catapulted him to new heights in the film industry. ‘Shiva’ by director Ram Gopal Varma, gave Nagarjuna the fame of a popular action hero. He made his debut in Bollywood with the remake of ‘Shiva’. He paired with Vamsi, the renowned Telugu actress in ‘Ninne Pelladutha’ that proved to be the biggest romantic blockbuster in the Telugu cinema industry. His film Akhari Poraatam ran for 100 days and was a smash hit. His role as a tragic hero in Majnu and a challenging characterization in Annamayya, made him a celebrity in the Telugu film industry.

Nagarjuna was awarded the National Award for his role in ‘Annamayya’ in the Special Jury section.. He worked with a number of film directors namely Ram Gopal Varma, Mani Ratnam, Praveen Gandhi, Geetha Krishna,Uppalapati Narayana Raoa and Pratap. Movies such as LOC Kargil (2003),  Nenunnanu and Mass (2004), Super (2005), Sri Ramadasu and Boss, I Love You(2006), Rajanna (2011), Shirdi Sai (2012), Jagadguru Adi Sankara (2013), and Om Namo Venkatesaya (2017). He owns film production company Annapurna Studios, and a film and media school in Hyderabad. Additionally, he also devotes time to animal welfare and HIV/ AIDS related campaigns.
