Randhir Kapoor Biography

Randhir Kapoor is an actor of Bollywood and the head of RK Studios established by his father – the showman Raj Kapoor. He was born on February 15, 1947, in Bombay, Maharashtra. He is the eldest son of the legendary figure of Bollywood Raj Kapoor and Krishna Kapoor.

He married Babita in 1972, a famous actress of that time and has two daughters with her Kareena and Karishma. Both his daughters are established actresses of Bollywood. Due to a strained relationship Radhir Kapoor and Babita later separated.

Randhir Kapoor appeared on the silver screen with the film Kal Aaj Aur Kal in 1971. The film was a hit which starred three generations of the Kapoor family, including his grand-dad, Prithviraj, and his dad, Raj Kapoor.

This movie was followed by two more hits like Manmohan Desai’s Raampur Ka Lakshman with Shatrughan Sinha and Rekha and Jawani Diwani with Jaya Bachchan. Few other famous movies include Mama Bhanja, Chacha Bhatija, Khalifa, Haath Ki Safai, Kasme Vaade, Biwi O Biwi and Pukar.

As an actor he was moderately successful. Randhir Kapoor quit films for 15 years after the film Khazana and engaged himself in producing and directing films. In 1999, he made a come back with the film Mother followed by Armaan in 2003 after that he has never acted in films.

Randhir Kapoor has directed films like Dharam Karam (1975), which was a flop. Henna was a movie directed by him in 1991which was a hit, it starred Rishi Kapoor, and the Pakistani actress, Zeba Bakhtiar. In 1985, he produced Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985) which did well on the box office and also won the Filmfare Best Movie Award.
