About
Shatrughan Prasad Sinha is an Indian film actor and an Indian politician. Also called as Shotgun or Shatru, he has gained immense popularity in his time with his acting and dialogue delivery. He is a member of the Rajya Sabha and was also the Union Cabinet Minister of Health and Family Welfare from January 2003 till May 2004 and Minister of Shipping in August 2004. He got elected to the 15th Lok Sabha in 2009.
Personal Life
Shatrughan Sinha, born on 9 December 1945 in Patna, Bihar, did his education from Patna Science College. He graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He relocated to Mumbai, Maharashtra where he started his acting career in the film industry. He married former Miss India Poonam Sinha. The couple has three children: Sonakshi Sinha, Luv Sinha and Kush Sinha.
Career
Shatrughan Sinha started his acting career with his first film Sajan in 1969 and in the following year he acted in Dev Anand’s Prem Pujari. He played many supporting roles in several films before finally appearing as lead in Gulzar’s Mere Apne in 1971. He appeared in many successive movies like Dost and Kalicharan and was one of the most unconventional actors in Hindi cinema.
In 2008, Shatrughan Sinha ventured into television and joined The Great Indian Laughter Challenge show, season 4 as a judge on STAR One TV. He also hosted Dus Ka Dum season 2 for a special episode on Sony Entertainment Television in 2009. Currently he hosts the Bhojpuri version of the popular game show KBC – Kaun Banega Crorepati on Mahuaa channel.
Shatrughan Sinha became a cabinet minister of Government of India in the 13th Lok Sabha and got hold of two portfolios, Department of Health and Family Welfare and Department of Shipping. At present, he is a member of the BJP – Bharatiya Janata Party and since May 2006 Shatrugan was appointed as the head of the BJP Culture and Arts Department.
