Infrastructure of Amritsar

Amritsar is one of the most important cities of Northern India and therefore much care is taken to develop and maintain its infrastructure. The Government of India is giving special attention to the development of the infrastructure of Amritsar. Separate budgets have been made to accelerate the growth, development and maintenance of sewage management, roads, water, and a mass system of rapid transport transit. Modern Amritsar is witnessing a paramount growth in the number of high rises, malls, and parks. In order to increase the tourism value of the city special care is being taken of the religious shrines and historical places in the region.

A major project of Amritsar infrastructure is its superb transit system which connects Amritsar with Delhi via the city of Chandigarh. Roads in general in the city are being broadened and being connected to crucial destinations. In order to maintain the environment of the city efforts are being given to dilute the city traffic and control the pollution level. Infrastructure of Amritsar has attained a new dimension with the renovation of the Raja Sansi International Airport which now has a new terminal. The urban planning sector is working hard to improve the housing and transport infrastructure of Amritsar.

The head of the Administrative Infrastructure of Amritsar is the Deputy Commissioner who is an officer of the Indian Administrative Services. A number of officers, belonging to the Punjab Civil Service, work under him. The other important officers who are responsible for the Administrative infrastructure of Amritsar are the Senior Superintendent of Police, Divisional Forest Officer, and district head/officer of different departments. The administrative infrastructure of Amritsar is supported by a local level government which is in charge of local and public health systems of the city.
