Where is Jordan Located?

Jordan is a country found in the western part of Asia and the Middle East. It is located on the eastern side of the Jordan River and is in a strategic location at the intersection of Asia, Africa, and Europe. Jordan has its northern side with Syria, eastern side with Iraq and the southern and eastern sides with Saudi Arabia. It shares borders with Palestine and Israel to the west. Jordan has a short coastline on the Red Sea within the Gulf of Aqaba, which is in the far south.

In terms of geography, the greater portions of Jordan are a desert plateau, which is a section of the larger Arabian Desert. The southern and eastern parts are largely dry, rocky and sandy. The western section of the country, on the contrary, is more fertile and has also the Jordan Valley, which is a component of the Great Rift Valley. The lowest point on the surface of the earth is found in this valley, which is divided between Jordan and Israel and is called the Dead Sea.

The country has the capital city, Amman, which is found in the northwestern region of the country. Amman is the political, cultural and economic hub of Jordan, which is constructed on a chain of hills. The other important sites are the ancient city of Petra in the south and the port city of Aqaba on the Red Sea.

Jordan has traditionally been a central point of the region, which made it significant in terms of trade, travel, and cultural exchange. Its location between key neighbouring nations is still used in determining its political and economic contribution in the Middle East, being a factor in the present day.
