Israel has bombed the nuclear plant of Iran in what it terms a preemptive strike to stop the possible acquisition of nuclear weapons by Tehran. The facility, which is suspected to be the core of the uranium enrichment program in Iran, has been of interest to the Israeli intelligence agencies and the West for a long time. Israeli leaders argue the attack was needed to ensure Iran does not get to the nuclear threshold due to heightened activity at the facility and because of the alleged Iranian breach of the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA), which Iran has been slowly reeling back since the U.S. withdrew in 2018.
Condemning the attack, Iran on the other called it a flagrant act of aggression and promised to retaliate, terming it as an assault on its sovereignty and a danger to regional stability.
The airstrike has rippled shock in the Middle East, and there are concerns of the possible intensification of military war between the two countries. International forces, such as the U.S., Russia, and the EU have called on restraint, fearing that this event will spark a larger war in the region as proxies and allies, on either side, get involved.
This attack is a game changer in the Middle East tension as nuclear non-proliferation, international oil market, and the diplomacy in the region remain in Hype. The situation is being followed by the world, wishing to prevent the all-out conflict.
