Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of sugarcane.<\/h2>\n

Sugarcane is a long duration, high water (750-1200mm range rainfall required), and a high nutrient demanding crop. India is the second-largest sugar producer in the world after Brazil. Sugarcane production has been more or less static (around 350 million tonnes) in India during the past ten years. During the year 2017-18, the total production was a record of 379,904.85 thousand tonnes whereas, in the year 2018-19, the estimate is 400,369.36 thousand tonnes.<\/p>\n

As per the 2017-18 data, Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of sugarcane as it produces an estimated 177,033.33 thousand tonnes of sugarcane, which is 46.60% of the all-India production. Sugarcane crop is sown in an area of 2.17 million hectares in the state, which amounts to a 43.79% share of all-India sugarcane farming.<\/p>\n

Maharastra comes in second place with an estimated sugarcane production of 82,984.00 thousand tonnes in the year 2017-18, which is 21.84% of the all-India sugarcane production. The total area of the state agricultural land where sugarcane is grown is 0.99 million hectares, mainly consisting of a black soil belt.<\/p>\n

Karnataka comes at the third position with an estimated sugarcane production of 31,135.19 thousand tonnes in the year 2017-18, which is approximately 8.20% of the country\u2019s sugarcane production. Sugarcane is grown on a total area of 0.45 million hectares of the state\u2019s agricultural land.<\/p>\n

Tamil Nadu is the fourth-largest producer of sugarcane, with an estimated production of 17,153.98 thousand tonnes of sugarcane, which roughly amounts to 4.52% of the country\u2019s sugarcane production. Bihar comes next with 13,824.63 thousand tonnes of sugarcane \u2013 3.64% of the country\u2019s sugarcane production.<\/p>\n
