01 July 2020 Current Events PM Modi Extends Free Ration for 5 More Months

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address the nation where he announced the extension of the scheme to provide five kg foodgrains and one kg of pulses for free to 80 crore beneficiaries for another five months. He further said that the five-month extension would cost around Rs 90,000 crore, taking it to Rs 1.5 lakh crore altogether. Under the National Food Security Programme, low-income families are entitled to 5 kg grains every month, and the government is extending the entitlement also by topping it up with matching quantity with pulses. However, other elements of the same scheme have ended on Tuesday.
